Introduction: ESBL is an important factor in antibiotic resistance. Antibiotic resistance has been proposed as a global problem in recent decades and it causes many deaths all over the world; therefore, rapid and accurate diagnosis can be major step in solving this problem. This study aimed to identify SHV-type gene with PCR method. Methods and Materials: SHV gene sequ...

Sixty isolates of Enterobacteriaceae resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics were collected over a period of 2 years in Switzerland and screened by hybridization for the carriage of SHV genes. Thirty-four positive strains were found, and their SHV genes were amplified and sequenced. SHV extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) were found: 13 strains contained SHV-2a, 12 harbored SHV-2, and SHV-5 ...

Our laboratory has been concerned with the structure and function of the decapentaplegic gene complex (DPP-C) in Drosophila melanogaster. To define the boundaries of the complex, we have studied the genetics of mutations allelic to a previously discovered mutation shortvein (shv), known to reside near decapentaplegic. We found that shortvein resides distal to Hin-d and dpp within the same polyt...

Nucleotide sequencing is the standard molecular method for determination of the beta-lactamase gene present in an isolate. Using minimal sequence quality values prevents misidentification of bla(SHV) genes, as illustrated by three strains of three different species that each contained two different bla(SHV) alleles, SHV-2 and SHV-12.

A clinical strain of Klebsiella pneumoniae was found to possess the chromosomal gene bla(SHV-56), encoding a new inhibitor-resistant beta-lactamase with a pI of 7.6. SHV-56 is derived from SHV-11 by the single substitution K234R. This mutation therefore evidences a new critical site for inhibitor resistance among SHV enzymes.

objective(s) production of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (esbls) by enteric bacteria continues to be a major problem in hospitals and community. esbls producing bacteria cause many serious infections including urinary tract infections, peritonitis, cholangitis and intra-abdominal abscess. the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of esbls producing escherichia coli and klebsiell...

Klebsiella pneumoniae causing primary liver abscess (PLA) is emerging. This study identified the beta-lactamases genes of K. pneumoniae isolates in Taiwan. The susceptibilities of beta-lactam antibiotics of 30 K. pneumoniae strains associated with primary liver abscess and 30 noninvasive strains were analyzed. The beta-lactamase genes of randomly selected 24 strains from community-acquired infe...

BACKGROUND Extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) belonging to the SHV family remain a major cause of ESBL-positive phenotypes in Klebsiella pneumoniae. The bla(SHV) gene is a normal constituent of the K. pneumoniae chromosome. However, most ESBL-encoding bla(SHV) genes found in K. pneumoniae are plasmid borne. The objective was to determine the contribution of promoter variants to the expre...

Introduction: Extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) are rapidly evolving group of beta-lactamase enzymes commonly produced by the Gram negative bacteria, these enzymes have been derived from TEM and SHV genes by mutations. This study was done to look for TEM and SHV genes in ESBL positive E.coli and K. pneumoniae isolated from the cancer patients suffering with infections and admitted in a ...

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE Extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) are rapidly evolving group of beta-lactamase enzymes produced by the Gram negative bacteria. These enzymes have been derived from TEM and SHV genes by mutations and have been well described in Klebsiella pneumoniae. Information on molecular types of ESBL positive Klebsiella sp. is lacking from India. We therefore undertook this st...
